In the original petition to change the name of New Berlin to North Canton, the reasons why the change would be good for the town included the following: "To be known as the North Section of so well and favorably known a city as Canton is no small honor." It seems that sharing a name with Canton would make things easier with the post office and telephone exchange (Basner 114).
