Schick's Meadow
Baseball Comes to New Berlin
In the early 1890s, baseball came to New Berlin. “A team was organized and outfitted with the barest of equipment and only a few balls and bats. Gloves were almost unheard of and the catchers had no protectors.” The uniforms were all cut from the same bolt of bright red cloth. Walt Schick was the first baseman and the first games were played at Schick’s meadow. (Basner 76-77)
