Old Dick

A Typical Local Sight

In 1940, one had to be careful before stepping into the street. The danger was Old Dick, the gray horse that drew Waxey Swandon’s North Canton Dairy Wagon. The North Canton Diary traced back to 1934 when several local farmers joined together and became milk deliverers. Yale Strausser left the group in 1936 to reorganize his father’s Orchard Hill Dairy and later built a dairy store near the northeast corner of Bachtel and South Main (Basner 187).
