Glacial Plains
Ancient history
During the last Ice Age, large glaciers pushed through Ohio. As they melted, they left behind lakes – including Lake Erie – sediment, minerals, and fertile ground. The glaciers stopped their movement in what is now southern Stark County leaving an abundance of deposits at the terminal moraine in what is now North Canton but was for a time New Berlin. According to expert Hoover science teacher emeritus, Jeff Pickle, North Canton is a lateral moraine with plains areas to our near west in Jackson Township. But our unflavored seltzer – waiting for your choice of syrups – fits the name Glacial Plains much better.
